About DogFoodBuyer

DogFoodBuyer is an independent dog food research site. We exist because the existing pet food information landscape is bad in a specific way: most of it is either marketing copy from the brands themselves, or affiliate content where the rankings track commission rates more closely than they track product quality.

The premise of this site is that you can write about dog food honestly and still build a business around it, as long as the editorial layer and the commerce layer are kept structurally separate. Our scoring system has no access to commission rates. Our content engine generates pages from structured product data, not from brand-supplied marketing materials. The “what’s the best food for X” question gets answered the same way whether or not the answer pays us a commission.

We’re not a veterinary clinic. We don’t give medical advice. If your dog has a diagnosed condition that requires a therapeutic diet, the right answer is a conversation with your veterinarian, not a comparison page on this site. What we can do is help you understand what’s actually on the bag and which brands to take seriously.

How to use this site

Three main entry points:

  • Browse by category. The all recipes archive is organized by format, life stage, breed size, and health goal. Use it when you know roughly what you’re looking for.
  • Read a guide. The guides section has long-form articles about reading labels, switching foods, choosing for puppies, and the regulatory landscape. Start with how to read a dog food label or AAFCO statements decoded.
  • Use the food finder. If you’re starting from scratch, the food finder quiz walks you through life stage, breed size, and budget and surfaces a shortlist of recipes that match.

What we cover

  • Product reviews: structured product pages for every recipe in the catalog
  • Brand pages: brand profiles with portfolio, recall history, and current activity
  • Best lists: curated picks by category, life stage, and health goal
  • Comparisons: head-to-head reviews of competing brands and recipes
  • Guides: long-form editorial on label reading, ingredient analysis, regulations, and feeding decisions
  • Recalls: current and historical FDA pet food recall coverage

How to reach us

For factual corrections, brand updates, or editorial questions, email us. For complaints about a product you bought, contact the brand directly. We can’t help with returns or shipping issues for products purchased through merchant links, but the merchants we work with all have good customer service teams that can.

For more on how we make decisions, read the methodology page.
