Complete and Balanced

A dog food labeled 'complete and balanced' means it provides every essential nutrient a dog needs at concentrations meeting AAFCO standards, in proportions that are safe to feed as the only food. Treats, toppers, and supplements are not complete and balanced and should not be fed alone. The complete and balanced claim must specify a life stage (growth, adult maintenance, or all life stages). A bag without this claim cannot legally be sold as a primary diet in the US, only as a supplemental feeding product.
