Guaranteed Analysis

The guaranteed analysis is a panel on every dog food label that lists the minimum percentages of crude protein and crude fat, and the maximum percentages of crude fiber and moisture. Some brands voluntarily list additional guarantees: omega fatty acids, glucosamine, taurine, calcium, phosphorus. The word 'crude' refers to the chemistry test method, not the quality of the nutrient. The guaranteed analysis is the legal floor (for protein and fat) and ceiling (for fiber and moisture). Actual values are often slightly higher or lower batch to batch.
