Bag Rotation and Storage
Best practices for dog food storage: store the original bag inside an airtight container (the bag liner is part of the freshness barrier, do not pour kibble directly into the container), keep at room temperature away from sunlight and heat, finish each bag within 4 to 6 weeks of opening, and write the open date on the bag in marker so you know its age. For multi-dog households where bags are emptied quickly, larger bags make economic sense. For single-dog households especially with small dogs, smaller bags purchased more frequently keep the food fresher even though the per-pound price is higher.
