Mixed Tocopherols

Mixed tocopherols are a natural blend of vitamin E compounds (alpha, beta, gamma, delta tocopherols) used as antioxidant preservatives in dog food. They prevent fats and oils from going rancid by scavenging free radicals. Mixed tocopherols are the safe alternative to BHA, BHT, and ethoxyquin (the synthetic preservatives flagged in our watch list). Premium brands use mixed tocopherols even though they cost more and provide shorter shelf life than synthetic preservatives. Recipes preserved with mixed tocopherols typically have 4 to 6 weeks of post-opening freshness vs 12 to 18 months for BHA-preserved recipes.
