As-Fed Basis

As-fed basis is the nutrient percentages as they appear on the bag, with water included in the total. This is the default reporting on US dog food labels. As-fed numbers are useful for comparing foods of the same format (kibble to kibble, canned to canned) but misleading when comparing across formats because moisture content varies wildly. To compare a kibble to a fresh refrigerated food fairly, you have to convert both to dry matter basis first.
