Cost Per Day

Cost per day is the daily food cost calculated for a specific dog's calorie needs. It is the only fair way to compare dog food prices across brands and formats because bag size, calorie density, and feeding portions all vary. Calculation: divide the bag price by the bag's total calories, multiply by your dog's daily calorie target. A 30-pound bag at $60 with 4000 kcal/cup and your dog needing 800 kcal/day works out to roughly $2.30/day. Cost per day flips many price assumptions. Premium kibble can be cheaper per day than budget kibble for a small dog. Fresh food costs more per day than premium kibble.
