AAFCO Nutrient Profile

The AAFCO Dog Food Nutrient Profiles specify minimum and maximum levels for protein, fat, individual amino acids, fatty acids, vitamins, minerals, and several other nutrients. There are two profiles: one for growth and reproduction, one for adult maintenance. A complete and balanced dog food must hit every minimum and stay below every maximum in the relevant profile. The profiles are updated periodically based on research from the National Research Council (NRC). They are the technical foundation underneath every 'complete and balanced' claim on a US dog food bag.
