Organic
Organic dog food meets the same USDA National Organic Program standards that apply to human organic food. Ingredients must come from farms that do not use synthetic pesticides, synthetic fertilizers, or genetically modified seeds. Animal products must come from animals raised without antibiotics or growth hormones. There are four levels: '100% organic,' 'organic' (95+ percent organic ingredients), 'made with organic ingredients' (70+ percent), and 'specific organic ingredients' (less than 70 percent). True organic dog food is uncommon and expensive. The actual nutritional difference from non-organic premium food is small, but the sourcing standards are real.
