Buying
Price Per Pound
Price per pound is the bag price divided by the total bag weight. It is the easiest comparison number to find but it is misleading for dog food because it ignores calorie density and feeding portion. A premium kibble at $4/lb might feed your dog more cheaply per day than a budget kibble at $1.50/lb if the premium food has higher calorie density and lower feeding portions. Use price per pound to compare two products in the same format and tier (kibble to kibble of similar density), but always cross-check against cost per day for a real apples-to-apples view.
